Turkmenistan U17 football team won bronze at the CAFA-2025 Championship

The Turkmenistan youth national team won bronze medals at the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Championship for players under 17 that ended in Tashkent, defeating the Kyrgyzstan team on penalties in the match for 3rd place.

The tournament brought together representatives of 6 countries, which were divided into two groups at the first stage.

Having beaten the youth from Afghanistan in the first match – 1:0 and then lost to their peers from Tajikistan – 1:4, the Turkmen football players took second place in Group B with 3 points.

Their opponent in the match for bronze – the Kyrgyzstan U17 team in Group A also took second place with 3 points, losing to the Uzbekistan team – 1:5 and defeating the representatives of Iran – 4:3.

The regular time of the game for 3rd place ended in a 0:0 draw. In the series of 11-meter penalty kicks, Ahmet Allaberdiyev's team was luckier, winning with a score of 7:6.

The best player of the match was recognized as the goalkeeper of the Turkmenistan team Azim Abayev.

The winner of the tournament was the Tajikistan U17 team, which in a dramatic final won 4:3 in a sensational come-from-behind victory over the hosts – the football players of Uzbekistan.

In the match for fifth and sixth places, the Iranian youth team defeated their peers from Afghanistan – 3:1.
