On June 23, 2026, the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Republic of Azerbaijan was successfully concluded. Within the framework of the visit, high-level negotiations were held between the heads of the two states, during which important areas for the further development of friendly relations, mutual trust, and cooperation were discussed.

The negotiations continued in an expanded format with the participation of official delegations from both countries. Following the meetings, a number of important documents were signed between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and new directions for bilateral cooperation were identified.

Among the signed documents, a significant place is occupied by an important agreement related to the field of sports. In particular, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of sports was signed between the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Physical Culture and Sports and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

This document is aimed at further strengthening ties between the two countries, exchanging experience, developing cooperation between athletes and coaches, as well as creating new opportunities for organizing joint sporting events.

In recent years, cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan in the sports sphere has become increasingly important. Athletes from both countries have successfully participated in international competitions, demonstrating that sports diplomacy is one of the important areas contributing to the rapprochement of peoples.

The signing of the new Memorandum represents another important step in the development of friendly relations. The document opens up new opportunities for promoting a healthy lifestyle, increasing young people's interest in sports, and strengthening interaction between the two states on the international sports arena.
